Synopsis
The speakers of  "International Chromatic Harmonica Workshop are world-class keynote harmonica players including Huang Yu Qian from China,Zhengjiang Ming and Juko Saito from Japan, Yang Shulin from Taiwan, Johnny Chan from Hong Kong, Lee Hea Bong from Korea, Chong Ah Kow from Malaysia and Chew Chin Sik from Singapore. In this workshop, the senior performers will be arranged to perform. They include Miss Taiwan’s Zhang Zhuting playing piano chord "Overture of William Hill" , Hong Kong ‘s Lu Deguang playing "Blue Sky Rain", Beijing’s Bai Yan Sheng demonstrating how to play the new “Chenggong” harmonica, Malaysia's Tong Mengxiong to play harmonica music composed by Shi Ren Wang’"South Spring Waltz" and "Beautiful Motherland" by Wang Zhizhong to play five harmonica solo acoustic "Baoqingtian theme song" and Japan’s Kan Manaka playing harmonic minor "The moon of the empty city" ,Singapore’s Zheng Shusen, "Miao Mountain Moon," and Wang Fusheng’s"Happy Birds" and so on. Harmonica lovers who are interested are welcome to attend the workshop.

Title: Birth and History of a small instrument: The Harmonica
Speakers: Jean Labre

Synopsis
This workshop by Jean Labre will bring you through the history of harmonica starting from China in the 27th centaury BC. The Yellow King in China invented the first instrument with free reeds, based upon the two fundamental principles governing the universe: the yin, female and passive, and the yang, male and active. It was later on brought to the west by Marco Polo and was then developed and transformed to the harmonica we see today.

Title: Legato, Vibrato, Staccato
Speakers: Ong Gim Dee, Zheng Zhangming

Synopsis
This talk will be presented by Cheng Jang Ming and Ong Gim Dee will be the demonstrator.  The talk will be conducted in Mandarin. The three fundamental techniques of harmonica playing are: legato, vibrato and staccato.  When the beginner has learnt to master these three techniques well, he would be able to play the harmonica with confidence and also express all the nuances of the music well.  The detailed methods for each technique will be presented and the demonstrator will show the audience how to carry out each method.  Some music excerpts will also be played to demonstrate the important details of the various techniques.  There will a pianist accompanying the demonstration and if time allows, Ong Gim Dee will also play a song for the audience.

Title: Harmonica Quintet Workshop

Synopsis
Harmonica Trio traditionally is the most popular in harmonica orchestra performance. The King's Harmonica Quintet in the late eighties created a brand new harmonica ensemble mode, trying to widen the field of harmonica playing. In this workshop, the quintet members will share experience of performing and demonstrate part of the ensemble music.

Title: Hotvill’s Trio Workshop 
Speakers: Hotvill’s Trio

Synopsis
The name Hotvill's has been created in 1966, first long playing with the best French orchestra who were a large orchestral. In this workshop, Hotvill’s members, Maurice Bailly, Bernard Dubos and Michel Evain will share with you show all different fashions-technique how to play different Harmonicas and for all sorts of music. They will also teach you how to explain how they work together and they work first alone.

We used to try out in order to find our unique style and also being destitute to arranger ... ... ... Breaking the taditional harmonica playing style, so that the effect of performing can be like magic flame as more lively and changeable and by changing the patterns, bestowing a unique vitality. Driven by harmonica wizard, turned into the music and spirit, to create the beauty of artistic conception harmonica performance.

Title: Chromatic/Blues Harmonica Workshop 
Speakers: Brandon Power
 
Synopsis
Brandon has recorded 17 CDs featuring many different styles on both chromatic and diatonic harmonicas, including Blues, Jazz, Pop, Irish & Bulgarian Folk Music. He is also well known for modifying and retuning his harmonicas to give extra authenticity for individual musical styles. In this workshop, Brandon will demonstrate some of his stylistic versatility and invite questions on the music and his custom harmonicas. In addition he will explain the specialist microphones and electronic effects he uses, and devote time to the specialist playing of Irish traditional music.

Title: Harmonica Repair and Maintenance Workshop

Synopsis
Many workshops have been held showing how to adjust a harmonica to assist in improving your playing.However, the worst case scenario is not a harmonica that does not respond, or is out of tune.The worst case, especially for players of Chromatic harmonicas, is the breaking of a single reed inside the instrument. Michael Timler from Harponline/Germany will show that breaking a single reed is not a catstrophe. In his workshop you will experience with your own hands the secret of a single reed exchange, which will open a whole new world of harmonica physics for you. After the workshop you will not only know how the exchange works from a mechanical point of view, it will also start you on the road to mastering the secrets of centering, gapping and tuning your instruments to your own personal requirements.Participants interested in working practically during the workshop are also welcome, along with those who merely wish to participate in the lecture.
