Bhangra, in the traditional sense, is a folk dance and not a genre of music. It is the most popular of the community dances which originated from the villages of Punjab, India .The folk dance is performed in celebration of the incoming wheat harvest in the month of Vesak(April) .Farmers gather in open fields in answer to the beat of the dhol and singing of Boliyan (lyrics). Kohinoor Bhangra has established itself as Singapore’s premier bhangra troupe. Kohinoor prides itself in its professionalism and commitment to the folk dance as a way of bridging the past and the present.
